Department Overview

In December 2023, the Town of Belleair turned off its 55 year old water treatment plant and began purchasing potable water from Pinellas County Utilities. Belleair’s switch to Pinellas County’s water supply occurred due to a consent order that was placed on the Town by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to resolve fluctuating levels of trihalomethanes (THMs) in Belleair's water supply. In response to the consent order, the Town Commission made the decision to purchase potable water on the basis of a wholesale agreement with Pinellas County Utilities. Pinellas County's water is in compliance with all federal and state standards. 

Although the Town’s water supply comes from Pinellas County, Belleair’s Water Department is responsible for maintaining the town’s water distribution system. Continuous upgrading and maintenance of the distribution system ensures that an adequate supply of water can be delivered safely to the residents of Belleair for consumption, irrigation, and fire protection.

Water Emergencies

For life safety emergencies, always dial 911. However, if you witness a water emergency, please report it immediately by calling the Belleair Police Department at (727) 588-3500. From there, you will be dispatched to a Belleair officer, who will then contact the on-call Water Department employee to assist. Calling early helps us to address issues before they get out of hand.

Water emergencies may include water main breaks, large leaks outside of your property line, hydrant leaks, or other damages to Belleair water lines or materials. Leaks inside of your home are the property owner’s responsibility.
